*Please note that our current application deadline of February 1, 2025 is for convening projects planned for the 2025 summer semester or later. (Applications for 2025 spring semester convenings were due October 1.)
Penn Global is delighted to offer grants for convening projects via all four of our Penn Global Funds, including the new Holman Africa Research and Engagement Fund, China Research and Engagement Fund, India Research and Engagement Fund, and Global Engagement Fund. Award amounts generally do not exceed $10,000.
We welcome convening proposals on a semesterly basis for projects across any and all disciplines, fields of study, and countries/regions. You may submit your application as early as you wish, but please note your application must be received by at least three months prior to the beginning of your target semester:
- For Fall semester convenings (Sept 1 – Dec 31), applications due June 1
- For Spring semester convenings (Jan 1 – Apr 30), applications due October 1
- For Summer semester convenings (May 1 – Aug 31), applications due February 1
In your application, you may optionally indicate which of our four Research and Engagement Funds (see above) you'd like to engage for funding, but it is not required to apply: if awarded, our Research and Engagement Funds management team will allocate approved funds for your project based on your country/countries or region(s) of focus.
The following members of the Penn community are eligible to apply as convening project Principal Investigators (PIs):
- Faculty
- Senior administrators
- Graduate students*
- Ph.D. students*
- Postdoctoral researchers*
*These applicants are required to attach to their application a Letter of Support from a sponsoring full-time Penn faculty member as well as a Business Administrator affiliated with their School or Center, and if awarded, their projects must conclude at least 6 months prior to their anticipated departure from Penn.
Applicants, please note that convening applications must include articulation of clear value to the Penn community. While events need not be held on campus or be open to all Penn members, proposals must demonstrate how the outputs and outcomes of the convening, if not the convening itself, will be made accessible to the Penn community through e.g. student outreach; planned features in Penn-wide publications; incorporation into academic/curricular offerings; etc.
Please note that all Awardees are required to submit semi-annual reports on January 31 and July 31 each year for the duration of their project. In addition, they are required to submit a Final Report within 30 days of the Project End Date. Details regarding the reporting requirements associated with awards are outlined in the Terms and Conditions Agreement which will be made available to all Awardees.
Please reach out to global@upenn.edu if you have any questions regarding our application forms and/or process.
